The exploit drained the network's bonded staking pool of 2,985,651,403.40 TAC tokens — representing 28.6% of the total token supply, valued at approximately $7.5 million at the time of the attack.\n\nThe technical mechanism, described in TAC's September 1 postmortem, involved a mismatch between two internal balance records: the EVM StateDB, which tracked only an account's spendable tokens, and the Cosmos SDK ledger, which also tracked locked vesting tokens eligible for delegation. By delegating an amount exceeding the spendable balance, an attacker could trigger an unchecked subtraction that wrapped toward approximately 2^256 — a maximum unsigned integer value. The attacker deployed a contract exploiting this underflow, which then caused the bonded staking pool's balance to overflow to zero while crediting the pool's original balance to the attack contract. Total token supply remained unchanged throughout the operation; existing tokens were illicitly transferred, not newly minted.\n\nWithin 95 seconds of the initial drain, the attacker executed two bridge transfers moving approximately 2.986 billion TAC to BNB Chain. The attacker subsequently sold 1,208,329,197 TAC on BNB Chain for approximately 950,293 USDT and 49.9 million TAC on TON for approximately 55,481 USDT, netting total proceeds of approximately $1,005,774 USDT. How verification works. The “Row integrity” check above is computed in your browser — your machine recomputes the SHA-256 of the canonical bytes and compares against the stored hash. No avoid.net server can fake that check. The “full verify” link goes one level deeper: your browser fetches the on-chain transaction from a Solana RPC node and confirms the same hash is in the memo. If you don’t want to trust either avoid.net or the public RPC, run the CLI verifier on your own machine — python -m src.verify_decision <event_id>.
