Audit log

Every state-changing event for Moonbeam Network (GLMR): moderation decisions on community submissions, plus corrections and updates from the news pipeline. URL-based decisions are designed to carry three independent witnesses — the original source, an Internet Archive snapshot, and a Solana memo signed by our publicly-disclosed publisher key. Archive coverage is still being backfilled, so each decision below reports its own snapshot status rather than assuming one exists.

The project positioned itself as an Ethereum-compatible smart contract platform built on Polkadot's parachain architecture, enabling developers to deploy existing Ethereum-based code with minimal modification. Moonbeam won a Polkadot parachain slot through a crowdloan that attracted more than 200,000 supporters delegating nearly a billion dollars worth of DOT tokens. The network launched on Polkadot mainnet on January 11, 2022, and GLMR reached an all-time high of approximately $19.50 on its launch date. The Moonbeam Foundation received a Web3 Foundation grant for development of a custom parachain staking pallet. Moonbeam ran grant programs in USD and GLMR to fund ecosystem developers and DeFi, NFT, gaming, and infrastructure projects. TVL peaked at approximately $275.73 million on January 27, 2022, within weeks of mainnet launch.","heading":"Background and Launch","severity":"low","sources":[{"credibility":2,"name":"CoinMarketCap: What Is Moonbeam (GLMR)?","type":"other","url":"https://coinmarketcap.com/academy/article/what-is-moonbeam-glmr"},{"credibility":1,"name":"Web3 Foundation Grant for Moonbeam Staking Pallet","type":"official","url":"https://moonbeam.foundation/news/moonbeam-awarded-a-web3-foundation-grant-for-the-development-of-a-custom-parachain-staking"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Moonbeam project details — Parachains.info","type":"other","url":"https://parachains.info/details/moonbeam"}]},{"content":"Moonbeam's TVL declined sharply from its January 2022 peak of approximately $275.73 million to approximately $1.34 million by July 1, 2026 — a reduction of more than 99%. The collapse tracked the broader crypto bear market that followed 2022, compounded by ecosystem-wide stagnation on Polkadot. Moonwell, the primary lending protocol operating on Moonbeam, migrated its governance to Ethereum mainnet on May 21, 2026, and subsequently introduced governance proposal MIP-M45 to halt all new lending and borrowing activity on Moonbeam and withdraw reserves ahead of the parachain's closure. GLMR's token price followed a corresponding decline from its all-time high, with the worst price performance occurring in 2022. No regulatory actions, hacks, or exploits of Moonbeam's core protocol are documented as primary drivers of the TVL decline; the collapse reflected loss of liquidity and user engagement over time.","heading":"TVL Collapse and Declining Ecosystem","severity":"high","sources":[{"credibility":2,"name":"CryptoRank: Moonbeam abandons Polkadot for Base as GLMR pivots to AI","type":"news_article","url":"https://cryptorank.io/news/feed/95acf-moonbeam-abandons-polkadot-base-glmr-ai"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Crypto Briefing: Moonwell users must withdraw Wormhole assets before Moonbeam sunset","type":"news_article","url":"https://cryptobriefing.com/moonwell-wormhole-moonbeam-sunset-withdraw/"},{"credibility":1,"name":"Moonbeam Network Relaunches on Base — Official Announcement","type":"official","url":"https://moonbeam.network/news/moonbeam-strategic-update-moonbeam-network-relaunches-on-base/"}]},{"content":"In mid-2026, Moonbeam announced the permanent shutdown of its Polkadot parachain and the full migration of GLMR to Base, Coinbase's L2 built on the OP Stack, at a 1:1 ratio. The official migration bridge (migrate.portal.moonbeam.network) opened with a hard cutoff of July 31, 2026 at 23:59 UTC. The new GLMR ERC-20 token address on Base is 0xb3846fd356c2149ee8d30b0449088dc74e265459. The team stated the network would pivot to a new Moonbeam Protocol designed as a decentralized AI agent communication and settlement layer. KuCoin announced automatic 1:1 conversion for exchange-held GLMR balances. Bybit maintained a separate migration schedule. Exchanges managing their own conversions meant direct bridge statistics do not capture the full picture of migrated supply. The Moonbeam announcement stated that guidance on unmigrated tokens would be released closer to the migration date, and warned: 'Once the chain winds down, funds left in on-chain protocols may become inaccessible.'","heading":"Parachain Shutdown and Migration to Base","severity":"high","sources":[{"credibility":1,"name":"Moonbeam Network Relaunches on Base — Official Announcement","type":"official","url":"https://moonbeam.network/news/moonbeam-strategic-update-moonbeam-network-relaunches-on-base/"},{"credibility":2,"name":"KuCoin: Moonbeam to Shut Down on July 31, 2026","type":"news_article","url":"https://www.kucoin.com/news/flash/moonbeam-to-shut-down-on-july-31-2026-users-urged-to-withdraw-assets"},{"credibility":2,"name":"The Defiant: Moonbeam to Fully Migrate GLMR From Polkadot to Base","type":"news_article","url":"https://thedefiant.io/news/blockchains/moonbeam-to-fully-migrate-glmr-from-polkadot-to-base-pivot-to-ai-agent-network"},{"credibility":3,"name":"Wormhole on X: Warning about Moonbeam shutdown","type":"social_media","url":"https://x.com/wormhole/status/2074499608647008266"}]},{"content":"As of the July 31, 2026 cutoff, approximately 24.83% of total GLMR supply — roughly 308.183 million out of 1.241 billion tokens — had migrated through the standard bridge contract. The remaining approximately 75% of supply encompassed a mix of self-custodied free balances, DeFi protocol deposits, staking positions, crowdloan locks, and exchange-held amounts. Exchange-held and snapshot-covered balances followed separate routes from the direct migration contract, so the 75.17% figure does not represent purely stranded supply. However, self-custodied holders who missed the deadline and assets locked in on-chain DeFi protocols had no automated recovery path.\n\nAfter the cutoff, the network entered maintenance mode on August 1, 2026 at 00:00 UTC and began rejecting user transactions. The standard migration portal directed late holders to email helpdesk@moonbeam.foundation for individual case review. The Moonbeam Foundation's forum confirmed a 60-day window for late claims, requiring users to submit their wallet address, token type, amount held, token location, and reason for missing migration. The forum warned that 'missing the 60-day claim window may result in the permanent loss of access to your tokens.' As of late August 2026, multiple forum users reported sending helpdesk emails in early August with no response received.\n\nAssets held through Moonwell (GLMR, xcDOT, USDC, FRAX, ETH) and assets bridged via Wormhole became inaccessible at chain halt. Wormhole stated explicitly that contributors 'cannot rescue stuck assets after July 31, 2026.' No universal post-cutoff recovery portal was published. Recovery for late self-custodied holders remained discretionary, with no public guarantee that every balance would be recovered.","heading":"Post-Cutoff Stranded Funds and Consumer Harm","severity":"critical","sources":[{"credibility":2,"name":"CryptoSlate: Moonbeam just halted all user transactions","type":"news_article","url":"https://cryptoslate.com/moonbeam-just-halted-all-user-transactions-leaving-late-glmr-holders-at-the-mercy-of-an-email-helpdesk-to-recover-stranded-funds/"},{"credibility":3,"name":"Moonbeam Community Forum: Missed date for migration requirement","type":"community_report","url":"https://forum.moonbeam.network/t/missed-date-for-migration-requirement/2653"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Coinsbit News: Moonbeam Halts GLMR Migration — Late Holders Told to Email Support","type":"news_article","url":"https://coinsbit.io/news/moonbeam-glmr-migration-cutoff-late-holders/"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Crypto Briefing: Moonwell users must withdraw Wormhole assets before Moonbeam sunset","type":"news_article","url":"https://cryptobriefing.com/moonwell-wormhole-moonbeam-sunset-withdraw/"},{"credibility":3,"name":"Axelar on X: Warning about fund accessibility after wind-down","type":"social_media","url":"https://x.com/axelar/status/2080682684196458565"}]},{"content":"The shutdown was publicly announced ahead of the July 31 deadline. Partner protocols including Wormhole, Axelar, and Moonwell issued independent user alerts urging withdrawal of funds. Wormhole published a direct warning on X stating that contributors 'cannot rescue stuck assets after July 31, 2026.' Crypto media including CryptoTimes, CryptoBriefing, KuCoin, and CoinGabbar covered the shutdown. The Moonbeam Foundation directed users to withdraw from liquidity positions, lending markets, staking contracts, and other DeFi protocols before bridging, because the direct bridge only handled free balances. Despite these communications, only 24.83% of total supply completed the direct bridge migration. The low figure in part reflects that a substantial portion of supply was held on exchanges that processed migration separately, rather than indicating that all remaining supply is permanently stranded. Community feedback on X included users describing the departure as 'a real pain in the ass' for the Polkadot ecosystem.","heading":"Migration Communication and Advance Notice","severity":"medium","sources":[{"credibility":2,"name":"CryptoTimes: Moonwell Alerts Users on Moonbeam Network Shutdown","type":"news_article","url":"https://www.cryptotimes.io/2026/07/04/moonwell-alerts-users-on-moonbeam-network-shutdown/"},{"credibility":2,"name":"CryptoTimes: Wormhole Warns Users to Bridge Assets as Moonbeam Shuts Down July 31","type":"news_article","url":"https://www.cryptotimes.io/2026/07/07/wormhole-warns-users-to-bridge-assets-as-moonbeam-shuts-down-july-31/"},{"credibility":1,"name":"Moonbeam Network Relaunches on Base — Official Announcement","type":"official","url":"https://moonbeam.network/news/moonbeam-strategic-update-moonbeam-network-relaunches-on-base/"}]},{"content":"Moonbeam announced the new Moonbeam Protocol as a decentralized network for AI agent communication, task negotiation, and verifiable on-chain settlement, intended to act as economic infrastructure for machine-to-machine payments. How verification works. The “Row integrity” check above is computed in your browser — your machine recomputes the SHA-256 of the canonical bytes and compares against the stored hash. No avoid.net server can fake that check. The “full verify” link goes one level deeper: your browser fetches the on-chain transaction from a Solana RPC node and confirms the same hash is in the memo. If you don’t want to trust either avoid.net or the public RPC, run the CLI verifier on your own machine — python -m src.verify_decision <event_id>.
