Hedera3 decisions on this page

Audit log

Every state-changing event for Hedera: moderation decisions on community submissions, plus corrections and updates from the news pipeline. URL-based decisions carry three independent witnesses — the original source, an Internet Archive snapshot taken at submission time, and a Solana memo signed by our publicly-disclosed publisher key.

In March 2023, the network suffered a protocol-level exploit in its Smart Contract Service that drained approximately $600,000 in liquidity pool tokens from three decentralized exchanges, requiring a full mainnet proxy shutdown for 41 hours. The platform operates under a council governance model comprising up to 39 global enterprises, which provides institutional stability but draws criticism for centralization relative to permissionless blockchains.","timeline":[{"date":"2016-01-01","event":"Swirlds, Inc. granted three U.S. patents protecting the hashgraph consensus algorithm invented by Dr. Leemon Baird.","source":""},{"date":"2019-09-16","event":"Hedera mainnet launched for open public access with HBAR as the native token.","source":""},{"date":"2021-09-15","event":"HBAR reached its all-time high price of approximately $0.57 USD.","source":""},{"date":"2022-01-19","event":"Hedera Governing Council voted to purchase the hashgraph intellectual property from Swirlds, Inc. and committed to releasing it under the Apache 2.0 open-source license.","source":""},{"date":"2022-08-05","event":"Hedera codebase transitioned to open source under Apache 2.0, completing the IP acquisition and open-sourcing commitment.","source":""},{"date":"2022-11-01","event":"Prolific scammer (account '2015717') allegedly began mass airdrop phishing campaigns targeting Hedera wallet users, sending fraudulent memos to tens of thousands of accounts.","source":""},{"date":"2023-03-09","event":"Attacker exploited a delegatecall precompile bug in Hedera's Smart Contract Service, stealing approximately $600,000 in tokens (DAI, USDT, USDC, WHBAR) from liquidity pools at Pangolin, SaucerSwap, and HeliSwap. The Hedera investigation page is factually solid overall, with all 16 atomic claims confirmed or partially supported. The four partially-supported findings involve minor inaccuracies: the ATH date is off by one day (Sep 16 not Sep 15); the 'full mainnet shutdown' language overstates what was actually a proxy access restriction; the DAI token attribution in the exploit is stated by Hedera but not independently corroborated by the Pangolin post-mortem; and the '70% decline by end of Q1 2025' claim overstates the pace of decline (price was roughly 50-55% off peak by March 31, 2025). No claims were found to contradict reputable current sources, and no link rot was detected on checked URLs.

All 16 reviewed claims were either confirmed or partially supported — zero claims were disputed by the reviewer. The four partially-supported findings (claim_findings[2], [6], [10], [13]) involve minor peripheral inaccuracies: a 1-day ATH date error, a proxy-vs-full-mainnet characterization nuance, an unconfirmed DAI token attribution, and a ~50-55% actual Q1 decline versus the stated 70%. None of these concern core allegations of fraud or security. No link rot or stale citations were detected. One high-priority coverage gap on HBAR regulatory status is noted and warrants expansion in a future revision, but an open coverage gap does not warrant denial or revision under current policy.

How verification works. The “Row integrity” check above is computed in your browser — your machine recomputes the SHA-256 of the canonical bytes and compares against the stored hash. No avoid.net server can fake that check. The “full verify” link goes one level deeper: your browser fetches the on-chain transaction from a Solana RPC node and confirms the same hash is in the memo. If you don’t want to trust either avoid.net or the public RPC, run the CLI verifier on your own machine — python -m src.verify_decision <event_id>.
