The technical architecture was led by South African developer Andre Cronje, who also created the DeFi protocol Yearn Finance. The project raised approximately $39.4 million across seed, private, and public sale rounds, with a public ICO conducted June 15–16, 2018 at $0.04 per token. The Fantom mainnet (Opera) launched in December 2019. The network uses a Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG) architecture with its Lachesis proof-of-stake consensus mechanism, targeting approximately 2,000 transactions per second with near-instant finality. FTM is the native token, used for staking, governance, fees, and validator bonds. The Foundation's CEO from early 2019 onwards was Michael Kong, with Cronje serving as Technical Director and later CTO.","heading":"Overview and Background","severity":"low","sources":[{"credibility":2,"name":"What is Fantom (FTM)? - Kraken","type":"other","url":"https://www.kraken.com/learn/what-is-fantom-ftm"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Fantom (FTM) ICO Details - ICO Drops","type":"other","url":"https://icodrops.com/fantom/"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Andre Cronje - IQ.wiki","type":"other","url":"https://iq.wiki/wiki/andre-cronje"}]},{"content":"In May 2024, the Fantom Foundation announced the formation of Sonic Foundation and Sonic Labs as the governing and development bodies for a new layer-1 blockchain called Sonic. The Fantom Foundation formally rebranded to Sonic Labs on August 1, 2024. The Sonic mainnet launched on December 18, 2024 with a Genesis Block produced on December 2, 2024. The new chain targets 10,000 transactions per second with sub-second finality (a testnet record of 720ms was reached in September 2024). FTM holders were offered a 1:1 token upgrade to the new S token. A two-way swap between FTM and S was available for the first 90 days post-launch; after March 2025, only one-way FTM-to-S conversions are permitted. Sonic Labs also launched a developer incentive program distributing 190.5 million S tokens and a Fee Monetization (FeeM) mechanism allowing developers to earn up to 90% of fees generated by their applications. In September 2025, the Sonic DAO approved a $150 million U.S. expansion plan, with 99.99% approval, encompassing a $50 million ETF backed by a regulated provider with more than $10 billion in AUM, a $100 million Nasdaq PIPE vehicle, and the establishment of Sonic USA in New York City.","heading":"Sonic Rebrand and Token Migration","severity":"low","sources":[{"credibility":1,"name":"Fantom Foundation Creates Sonic Foundation, Labs for New Sonic Chain - CoinDesk","type":"news_article","url":"https://www.coindesk.com/tech/2024/05/23/fantom-foundation-creates-sonic-foundation-labs-for-new-sonic-chain"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Fantom rebrands to Sonic Labs - CryptoSlate","type":"news_article","url":"https://cryptoslate.com/fantom-rebrands-into-sonic-labs-unveiling-high-speed-blockchain/"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Sonic Labs Launches the Sonic Mainnet - CryptoSlate","type":"news_article","url":"https://cryptoslate.com/press-releases/sonic-labs-launches-the-sonic-mainnet-evm-compatible-verifiable-10000-tps-and-sub-second-finality/"},{"credibility":1,"name":"Sonic Community Approves $150M Token Issuance - CoinDesk","type":"news_article","url":"https://www.coindesk.com/business/2025/09/01/sonic-community-approves-usd150m-token-issuance-for-u-s-etf-push-nasdaq-vehicle"}]},{"content":"On July 6, 2023, the Multichain cross-chain bridge protocol experienced unauthorized withdrawals of more than $125 million, with approximately $122 million originating from Multichain's Fantom bridge. Blockchain security firm Chainalysis noted the incident had characteristics consistent with either an external hack or an insider rug pull. Multichain later disclosed that its founder, Zhaojun He, had been in Chinese police custody since May 2023 and that his computers, hardware wallets, and mnemonic phrases had been confiscated by authorities, fueling suspicions of an inside job. Multichain subsequently suspended operations. The Fantom Foundation (later Sonic Labs) pursued legal action in the High Court of Singapore. On January 30, 2024, the Foundation obtained a default judgment against Multichain Foundation Ltd. and Multichain Pte Ltd. On June 3, 2024, the Singapore High Court awarded Fantom US$2,187,870.55 in damages. In October 2024, Sonic Labs secured a court-ordered winding-up of Multichain Foundation, enabling liquidation of its assets for partial recovery. Total Multichain losses across all chains were estimated at $210 million by Beosin and Fantom, making it one of the largest crypto bridge exploits on record. Sonic Labs took coordinated recovery action, tracing transactions, contacting wallet holders via on-chain messages, and working with centralized exchanges to freeze flagged funds. The team ultimately recovered 5,829,196 S tokens and fully distributed them proportionally to affected users through a claims portal. On May 27, 2022, the Seoul Central District Court initially ruled in Ahn's favor. The Fantom Foundation appealed. On June 19, 2024, the Seoul High Court reversed the lower court's judgment entirely, dismissing all of Ahn's claims and ordering him to pay litigation costs. The appellate court found that Ahn and SikSin failed to deliver on their contractual obligations and that a technical paper submitted by SikSin through Yonsei University was substantially similar to a paper published by Swirlds Labs (developer of Hashgraph technology) on May 31, 2016, constituting plagiarism. The court further found that the Fantom project's actual technology was developed by Andre Cronje and Quan Nguyen. Cronje stated that the SEC began sending letters in 2021 inquiring about Yearn Finance, including questions about investor fundraising. He alleged the letters became increasingly hostile in tone and that investigators pivoted to new angles of inquiry despite his cooperation. Cronje claimed he was threatened with escalated persecution if he went public with the story. He described the process as draining weeks and months of his time and resources, stating he was \"practically forced to completely stop development.\" Cronje said he chose to speak out following Gary Gensler's resignation and a more crypto-friendly posture from the new SEC leadership. No SEC charges against Cronje or the Fantom Foundation have been publicly filed as of the research date. The announcement caused FTM to fall approximately 25% within hours, declining to lows around $1.32, roughly 60% below its October 2021 all-time high of $3.46. The Fantom Foundation issued a clarification stating that neither Cronje nor Nell were core Fantom developers and that the impacted projects would be handed to their existing teams. Cronje himself later stated the departure was a \"public distancing\" rather than a genuine exit, citing concerns about the safety of the project at the time. In November 2022, Cronje formally rejoined the Fantom Foundation as Director, and was later appointed CTO of Sonic Labs. In early June 2024, the Fantom Foundation announced a transition from fUSD to bridged USDC.E (Coinbase's USD Coin on Fantom), and offered borrowers the ability to repay fUSD-denominated debt using USDC.E. According to a self-described Fantom community watcher cited by Protos, this announcement caused fUSD to trade from below $0.45 to above $0.95 overnight. Since the primary collateral backing fUSD loans was FTM itself, the rapid price appreciation allegedly doubled the effective repayment burden for long-term FTM stakers, constituting what the accuser characterized as an off-chain forced liquidation of at least 200 million FTM worth of staked collateral. The Fantom Foundation did not issue a direct public response to the specific allegations at the time. The claims were made by a single community observer, and no independent on-chain analysis or third-party investigation confirming the characterization has been identified. The allegation should be treated as low confidence absent further evidence.","heading":"fUSD Stablecoin and Alleged Liquidation Scheme","severity":"medium","sources":[{"credibility":2,"name":"Fantom stablecoin watcher alleges 'liquidation' scheme - Protos","type":"news_article","url":"https://protos.com/fantom-stablecoin-watcher-alleges-liquidation-scheme/"}]},{"content":"Following the Sonic mainnet launch in December 2024, the S token reached above $1.00 in early 2025 before suffering a decline of approximately 70% through the year. Sonic's total value locked (TVL) peaked near $1.7 billion in May 2025 before contracting approximately 64% to $598 million by September 2025, partly attributed to a poorly-received airdrop and the expiration of a market-making arrangement with Wintermute. By late 2025 the S token reached an all-time low of approximately $0.037. A structural tokenomics challenge compounded the price pressure: the Sonic Labs team held only approximately 3% of the total S token supply following the Fantom-to-Sonic community transition, placing the project at a disadvantage relative to competitors that retain 50–90%+ of their supply. In August–September 2025, Sonic Labs proposed and the community approved a $150 million token issuance, representing a roughly 20% supply increase, to fund an ETF, a Nasdaq PIPE vehicle, and Sonic USA. Fantom reduced the validator entry requirement by 90% (from 500,000 FTM to 50,000 FTM per node) to expand participation, though the project acknowledged this measure alone would not improve the Nakamoto Coefficient because voting power in the consensus is proportional to stake rather than validator count. Three claims warrant correction: the Multichain winding-up is dated October 2024 but actually occurred May 2025; the original minimum validator stake is stated as 3,125,000 FTM but is 3,175,000 FTM per official documentation; and the supply increase from the $150M issuance is described as 'roughly 20%' when multiple sources indicate 14-15% total supply expansion. The ICO total raise of $39.4M is a widely circulated figure but its derivation from the cited source is ambiguous. The S token all-time-low framing ('late 2025') is slightly premature as the actual ATL was recorded in 2026.anchoranchored

Three claims require correction: claim_findings[15] places the Sonic Labs-secured court-ordered winding-up of Multichain Foundation in October 2024, but multiple Tier-1 sources (The Block, CoinTelegraph) confirm the Singapore Supreme Court order came on May 9, 2025 — a seven-month error in a high-severity section. claim_findings[30] describes the $150M token issuance as a 'roughly 20% supply increase' when multiple sources indicate 14-15% total supply dilution, overstating the impact on token holders. claim_findings[35] cites the original minimum validator stake as 3,125,000 FTM versus the 3,175,000 FTM documented in official GitHub records, a minor but correctable numerical error. The Multichain winding-up date error is the most significant finding as it misrepresents the timeline of an ongoing high-value legal recovery and is flagged as a high-priority coverage gap by the reviewer.anchoranchored

How verification works. The “Row integrity” check above is computed in your browser — your machine recomputes the SHA-256 of the canonical bytes and compares against the stored hash. No avoid.net server can fake that check. The “full verify” link goes one level deeper: your browser fetches the on-chain transaction from a Solana RPC node and confirms the same hash is in the memo. If you don’t want to trust either avoid.net or the public RPC, run the CLI verifier on your own machine —
python -m src.verify_decision <event_id>.
