Every state-changing event for Everclear Protocol (formerly Connext): moderation decisions on community submissions, plus corrections and updates from the news pipeline. URL-based decisions are designed to carry three independent witnesses — the original source, an Internet Archive snapshot, and a Solana memo signed by our publicly-disclosed publisher key. Archive coverage is still being backfilled, so each decision below reports its own snapshot status rather than assuming one exists.

The project repositioned over time into a cross-chain interoperability network. In July 2021, Connext raised $12 million in a Series A round co-led by 1kx and ConsenSys Mesh, with participation from Coinbase Ventures, OKX Ventures, Hashed, eGirl Capital, and approximately 82 investors in total. In June 2023 Connext completed a $7.5 million strategic round with investors including Polychain Capital, NGC Ventures, Polygon Ventures, IOSG Ventures, Fenbushi Capital, KXVC, a_capital, No Limit Holdings, Factor, and Dokia Capital. In June 2024, Connext rebranded to Everclear and raised an additional $5 million from Pantera Capital via an over-the-counter token transaction to develop what the team described as the first clearing layer for intent-based cross-chain bridges. Total disclosed funding across all rounds was approximately $23.2 million. Its stated purpose was to coordinate the global settlement of liquidity between blockchains, targeting the fragmentation problem inherent in modular blockchain architectures. The protocol aimed to serve intent-based bridging protocols, solver networks, and decentralized applications. The original governance and utility token was NEXT, launched in September 2023 following a token generation event. In December 2024, the project completed a migration from NEXT to the CLEAR token. At its peak in January 2025, CLEAR reached an all-time high price of approximately $0.064 to $0.088 depending on the reporting source. The maximum token supply was 1 billion CLEAR. At the time of the shutdown announcement on May 21, 2026, CLEAR traded at approximately $0.0002332, representing a decline of roughly 99.7% from its all-time high. Prior to shutdown, the protocol claimed to have processed over $1 billion in total cleared volume and had reached $500 million in monthly transaction volume.","heading":"Product and Token Overview","severity":"medium","sources":[{"credibility":2,"name":"Everclear Price, CLEAR/USD Live Price Chart - CoinGecko","type":"on_chain","url":"https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/everclear"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Everclear (prev Connext) Token Unlocks and Vesting - CryptoRank","type":"research","url":"https://cryptorank.io/price/connext/vesting"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Everclear, the Pantera Capital-backed interoperability protocol, launches mainnet - The Block","type":"news_article","url":"https://www.theblock.co/post/350773/everclear-the-ethereum-foundation-backed-interoperability-protocol-launches-mainnet"}]},{"content":"On May 21, 2026, Everclear's team announced the simultaneous wind-down of the protocol, the Everclear Foundation, and Proxima Labs (the associated development entity). The protocol front end was taken offline. The CLEAR token fell approximately 48% to $0.0002332 within 24 hours of the announcement, with a 51% decline over the prior seven days. The team's public statement acknowledged the failure to achieve commercial sustainability: 'Despite reaching $500M in monthly volume, the cross chain solvers segment never developed the commercial depth we needed — users proved highly price-sensitive.' The team also disclosed that commercial partners had signed agreements but deployment timelines extended beyond the project's available runway: 'We underestimated how long it would take those partners to go live and our runway ran out before they did.' The team stated that to their knowledge no user funds were locked in the protocol at the time of shutdown. Remaining treasury funds were earmarked first for settling outstanding liabilities. A potential token buyback was mentioned, with an estimated range of $50,000 to $200,000, though the team described this as uncertain. The protocol's intellectual property remained with the Everclear Foundation, and the team indicated the codebase might be open-sourced to allow potential DAO-based continuation.","heading":"Operational Shutdown and Token Collapse","severity":"high","sources":[{"credibility":2,"name":"CLEAR token tanks 48% as Everclear winds down protocol, foundation and labs unit - The Block","type":"news_article","url":"https://www.theblock.co/amp/post/402252/clear-token-tanks-48-everclear-winds-down-protocol-foundation-labs-unit"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Everclear Winds Down After $500 Million Monthly Volume Fails to Pay Off - FinanceFeeds","type":"news_article","url":"https://financefeeds.com/everclear-winds-down-after-500-million-monthly-volume-fails-to-pay-off/"},{"credibility":2,"name":"CLEAR collapses 48% as Everclear shuts down protocol - crypto.news","type":"news_article","url":"https://crypto.news/clear-collapses-48-as-everclear-shuts-down-protocol/"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Everclear Winds Down Services As Crypto Shutdown Wave Deepens - CryptoAdventure","type":"news_article","url":"https://cryptoadventure.com/everclear-winds-down-services-as-crypto-shutdown-wave-deepens/"}]},{"content":"Everclear's core commercial challenge was the inability to extract meaningful revenue from high transaction volume. The cross-chain solver segment in which Everclear operated exhibited extreme price sensitivity among users, treating the protocol as a low-margin commodity routing layer rather than a value-added service. The team disclosed that despite processing $500 million in monthly volume, the business model failed to generate sustainable income. This volume-to-revenue conversion problem is a structural risk in cross-chain infrastructure, where competitive pressure and user expectations around minimal fees constrain monetization. The project was also exposed to partner integration risk: the team's disclosures indicate that several significant commercial partners had committed to deploying integrations but took longer to go live than projected, depleting runway before revenue from those integrations could materialize. The combination of thin margins, delayed integration timelines, and insufficient runway represents a compounded business model failure rather than a single proximate cause.","heading":"Revenue Model and Business Model Risk","severity":"high","sources":[{"credibility":2,"name":"Everclear Winds Down After $500 Million Monthly Volume Fails to Pay Off - FinanceFeeds","type":"news_article","url":"https://financefeeds.com/everclear-winds-down-after-500-million-monthly-volume-fails-to-pay-off/"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Everclear Zero Network DeFi Shutdown 2026 - BeInCrypto","type":"news_article","url":"https://beincrypto.com/everclear-zero-network-defi-shutdown-2026/"}]},{"content":"Everclear raised approximately $23.2 million across five disclosed funding rounds from prominent institutional investors including Pantera Capital, Polychain Capital, ConsenSys Mesh, 1kx, Coinbase Ventures, and Hashed, among others. The abrupt nature of the May 2026 shutdown raises questions — as yet unresolved in available public reporting — about whether investors and token holders received adequate advance notice of the project's financial deterioration. The team's public post-mortem acknowledged that runway was exhausted before commercial integrations could generate revenue, suggesting a period of declining financial viability preceding the public announcement. No regulatory actions, lawsuits, or official investigations related to the shutdown have been reported as of the investigation date. The potential token buyback offer of $50,000 to $200,000, against total disclosed fundraising of approximately $23.2 million and a CLEAR token market capitalization that had been in the millions, represents a minimal return to token holders. The disparity between total capital raised and the residual amount available for token holders is notable, though treasury management details beyond what the team disclosed are not available in public sources.","heading":"Investor Disclosure and Runway Management Concerns","severity":"high","sources":[{"credibility":2,"name":"CLEAR token tanks 48% as Everclear winds down protocol - The Block","type":"news_article","url":"https://www.theblock.co/amp/post/402252/clear-token-tanks-48-everclear-winds-down-protocol-foundation-labs-unit"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Connext rebrands to Everclear, raises $5M from Pantera - The Block","type":"news_article","url":"https://www.theblock.co/post/298044/connext-rebrands-to-everclear-raises-5-million-from-pantera-to-develop-a-clearing-layer"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Connext Funding Rounds & Investors - Tracxn","type":"research","url":"https://tracxn.com/d/companies/connext/__76Ct1r4H4K4vj_zzPn5t_Vqrgt8_DHieKLpgYgUlIvI/funding-and-investors"}]},{"content":"CLEAR token holders faced near-total loss of value following the shutdown announcement. The token's trajectory from its all-time high of approximately $0.064 to $0.088 in January 2025 to $0.0002332 at the time of shutdown represents a loss of approximately 99.7% of peak value. The circulating supply at shutdown was approximately 890 million tokens out of a maximum supply of 1 billion. At the post-announcement price, the total market capitalization was approximately $199,000. The team's offer of a potential buyback in the $50,000 to $200,000 range would represent a fraction of a cent per token even if fully executed and distributed pro-rata across all circulating supply. Token holders also faced thin secondary market liquidity, making orderly exit difficult following the price collapse. No mechanism for compensation beyond the potential buyback was disclosed. The team explicitly stated that the protocol has been sunsetted and that, to their knowledge, no funds are stuck in the protocol — suggesting user funds deposited for cross-chain transactions were not at risk, but CLEAR token holdings retained essentially no recovery value.","heading":"Token Holder Impact","severity":"critical","sources":[{"credibility":2,"name":"CLEAR collapses 48% as Everclear shuts down protocol - crypto.news","type":"news_article","url":"https://crypto.news/clear-collapses-48-as-everclear-shuts-down-protocol/"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Everclear Winds Down Services As Crypto Shutdown Wave Deepens - CryptoAdventure","type":"news_article","url":"https://cryptoadventure.com/everclear-winds-down-services-as-crypto-shutdown-wave-deepens/"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Everclear Price, CLEAR/USD Live Price Chart - CoinGecko","type":"on_chain","url":"https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/everclear"}]},{"content":"As of the investigation date, no regulatory actions, SEC enforcement proceedings, CFTC investigations, DOJ inquiries, or civil litigation related to Everclear's shutdown or CLEAR token have been identified in available public sources. The broader regulatory environment for cross-chain infrastructure tokens in the United States remained in flux during 2025 and 2026, with the SEC dropping numerous enforcement actions initiated under the prior administration. There is no verified reporting that Everclear or its associated entities (Proxima Labs, Everclear Foundation) are subjects of regulatory scrutiny. The absence of reported regulatory action should not be construed as a clean legal bill; the full extent of investor agreements, token sale terms, and treasury management practices has not been disclosed publicly.","heading":"Regulatory and Legal Status","severity":"low","sources":[{"credibility":1,"name":"2026 Digital Assets Regulatory Update - Cleary Gottlieb","type":"research","url":"https://www.clearygottlieb.com/news-and-insights/publication-listing/2026-digital-assets-regulatory-update-a-landmark-2025-but-more-developments-on-the-horizon"}]},{"content":"Everclear's shutdown occurred alongside at least two other blockchain infrastructure projects that ceased operations on the same day — May 21, 2026 — according to industry reporting, suggesting broader consolidation pressure on Layer-2 and cross-chain infrastructure providers. The cross-chain solver and bridge segment had faced increasing competitive pressure as major chains developed native bridging infrastructure and intent-based protocols proliferated. Everclear's failure reflects a pattern observed across several infrastructure-layer Web3 projects: the ability to route substantial transaction volume does not automatically translate into commercial revenue when user and partner price sensitivity limits fee capture. The project had achieved technical milestones including a successful mainnet launch in April 2025 and a completed token migration, but these achievements were insufficient to sustain the business in the absence of a viable monetization model.","heading":"Broader Industry Context","severity":"medium","sources":[{"credibility":2,"name":"Everclear Winds Down Services As Crypto Shutdown Wave Deepens - CryptoAdventure","type":"news_article","url":"https://cryptoadventure.com/everclear-winds-down-services-as-crypto-shutdown-wave-deepens/"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Everclear, the Pantera Capital-backed interoperability protocol, launches mainnet - The Block","type":"news_article","url":"https://www.theblock.co/post/350773/everclear-the-ethereum-foundation-backed-interoperability-protocol-launches-mainnet"}]}],"sources_used":[{"credibility":2,"name":"CLEAR token tanks 48% as Everclear winds down protocol, foundation and labs unit - The Block","type":"news_article","url":"https://www.theblock.co/amp/post/402252/clear-token-tanks-48-everclear-winds-down-protocol-foundation-labs-unit"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Everclear Zero Network DeFi Shutdown 2026 - BeInCrypto","type":"news_article","url":"https://beincrypto.com/everclear-zero-network-defi-shutdown-2026/"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Everclear Winds Down After $500 Million Monthly Volume Fails to Pay Off - FinanceFeeds","type":"news_article","url":"https://financefeeds.com/everclear-winds-down-after-500-million-monthly-volume-fails-to-pay-off/"},{"credibility":2,"name":"CLEAR collapses 48% as Everclear shuts down protocol - crypto.news","type":"news_article","url":"https://crypto.news/clear-collapses-48-as-everclear-shuts-down-protocol/"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Everclear Winds Down Services As Crypto Shutdown Wave Deepens - CryptoAdventure","type":"news_article","url":"https://cryptoadventure.com/everclear-winds-down-services-as-crypto-shutdown-wave-deepens/"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Connext rebrands to Everclear, raises $5M from Pantera - The Block","type":"news_article","url":"https://www.theblock.co/post/298044/connext-rebrands-to-everclear-raises-5-million-from-pantera-to-develop-a-clearing-layer"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Everclear, the Pantera Capital-backed interoperability protocol, launches mainnet - The Block","type":"news_article","url":"https://www.theblock.co/post/350773/everclear-the-ethereum-foundation-backed-interoperability-protocol-launches-mainnet"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Interoperability Project Connext Raises $12M From 1kx, ConsenSys - CoinDesk","type":"news_article","url":"https://www.coindesk.com/business/2021/07/13/interoperability-project-connext-raises-12m-from-1kx-consensys"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Arjun Bhuptani - Founder & CEO @ Everclear - Crunchbase","type":"other","url":"https://www.crunchbase.com/person/arjun-bhuptani"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Connext Funding Rounds & Investors - Tracxn","type":"research","url":"https://tracxn.com/d/companies/connext/__76Ct1r4H4K4vj_zzPn5t_Vqrgt8_DHieKLpgYgUlIvI/funding-and-investors"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Everclear Price, CLEAR/USD Live Price Chart - CoinGecko","type":"on_chain","url":"https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/everclear"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Everclear (prev Connext) Token Unlocks and Vesting - CryptoRank","type":"research","url":"https://cryptorank.io/price/connext/vesting"},{"credibility":1,"name":"2026 Digital Assets Regulatory Update - Cleary Gottlieb","type":"research","url":"https://www.clearygottlieb.com/news-and-insights/publication-listing/2026-digital-assets-regulatory-update-a-landmark-2025-but-more-developments-on-the-horizon"}],"summary":"Everclear Protocol, a cross-chain settlement and liquidity clearing network rebranded from Connext in June 2024, shut down all operations on May 21, 2026 after failing to convert $500 million in monthly transaction volume into sustainable revenue. How verification works. The “Row integrity” check above is computed in your browser — your machine recomputes the SHA-256 of the canonical bytes and compares against the stored hash. No avoid.net server can fake that check. The “full verify” link goes one level deeper: your browser fetches the on-chain transaction from a Solana RPC node and confirms the same hash is in the memo. If you don’t want to trust either avoid.net or the public RPC, run the CLI verifier on your own machine —
python -m src.verify_decision <event_id>.
