Audit log

Every state-changing event for Degen (DEGEN): moderation decisions on community submissions, plus corrections and updates from the news pipeline. URL-based decisions are designed to carry three independent witnesses — the original source, an Internet Archive snapshot, and a Solana memo signed by our publicly-disclosed publisher key. Archive coverage is still being backfilled, so each decision below reports its own snapshot status rather than assuming one exists.

A secondary guide reports a fixed total supply of about 37 billion tokens until 2028, then 1% annual inflation; 60% allocated to public distribution through three airdrops; and 25% to liquidity mining and DeFi liquidity pools (initially Uniswap and Aerodrome). The same guide does not state the allocation of the remaining 15%, and the allocation figures could not be confirmed from a primary project document. CoinGecko currently lists circulating and total supply of about 36.0 billion with no maximum supply. Community members reportedly raised concerns early on that the liquidity-provider NFT was not locked (low confidence, single secondary mention).","heading":"Origin and distribution","severity":"medium","sources":[{"credibility":3,"name":"Tasty Crypto - What is Degen","type":"news_article","url":"https://www.tastycrypto.com/blog/degen/"},{"credibility":2,"name":"CoinGecko - Degen (Base)","type":"other","url":"https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/degen-base"}]},{"content":"A March 2024 independent analysis on Paragraph reported 54,460 holders, with more than 50% of supply held in token contracts and the largest holder (a multisig) holding more than 15 billion tokens. Excluding contracts, the largest address held about 0.85% of supply. That post contains internal inconsistencies in its price and market-cap figures, so it is treated as low confidence. A CryptoRank rich-list page was reported in search results as showing about 1.18 million holders on Base, with the top 100 wallets holding roughly 89.5% of supply and about 52% of supply in contracts; the page could not be retrieved directly (HTTP 403) and the figures appear internally inconsistent, so they are unverified. Contract-held balances may include liquidity pools, bridges and treasury or distribution wallets, so concentration figures do not by themselves indicate insider control. Cointelegraph reported that Degen Chain attributed the bug and resulting outages to its service providers, acknowledged it should have replaced them or demanded a fix sooner, announced a provider overhaul, and said it would set up a form for affected users to seek refunds. Forklog attributed the loss to slippage during a series of swaps. A single outlet reported a full refund for the affected user; this was not confirmed by other sources. Tasty Crypto also notes that Degen Chain hosts over 20,000 meme and social tokens, many of which may be scams.","heading":"Degen Chain bridge incident","severity":"medium","sources":[{"credibility":2,"name":"Cointelegraph - Degen Chain user loses funds in bridge transfer","type":"news_article","url":"https://cointelegraph.com/news/degen-chain-user-loses-funds-bridge-transfer"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Forklog - Degen Chain user loses 90% of funds","type":"news_article","url":"https://forklog.com/en/degen-chain-user-loses-90-of-funds-in-transaction-mishap/"},{"credibility":3,"name":"Bitcoinworld - Degen Chain commits to refunds","type":"news_article","url":"https://bitcoinworld.co.in/degen-chain-commits-to-refunds-after-user-loses-785000-tokens/"}]},{"content":"Per a secondary source, DEGEN reached an all-time high of over six cents at the end of March 2024 with a market cap near $780 million. CoinGecko, when fetched on 13 October 2026, listed a market cap of about $35.6 million and rank 599 (the requester's 7 October reading was about $36.8 million, rank 597; the difference reflects normal movement, and CoinGecko figures change continuously). This implies a decline of roughly 95% from the cited peak. No regulatory actions, court filings or exploit of the token contract itself were found in the searches performed.","heading":"Market data and price volatility","severity":"low","sources":[{"credibility":2,"name":"CoinGecko - Degen (Base)","type":"other","url":"https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/degen-base"},{"credibility":3,"name":"Tasty Crypto - What is Degen","type":"news_article","url":"https://www.tastycrypto.com/blog/degen/"}]}],"sources_used":[{"credibility":3,"name":"Tasty Crypto - What is Degen","type":"news_article","url":"https://www.tastycrypto.com/blog/degen/"},{"credibility":2,"name":"CoinGecko - Degen (Base)","type":"other","url":"https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/degen-base"},{"credibility":3,"name":"Paragraph - DEGEN token analysis","type":"research","url":"https://paragraph.com/@mrfti/degen-token-analysis"},{"credibility":3,"name":"CryptoRank - DEGEN holders","type":"other","url":"https://cryptorank.io/price/degen-base/holders"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Cointelegraph - Degen Chain user loses funds in bridge transfer","type":"news_article","url":"https://cointelegraph.com/news/degen-chain-user-loses-funds-bridge-transfer"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Forklog - Degen Chain user loses 90% of funds","type":"news_article","url":"https://forklog.com/en/degen-chain-user-loses-90-of-funds-in-transaction-mishap/"},{"credibility":3,"name":"Bitcoinworld - Degen Chain commits to refunds","type":"news_article","url":"https://bitcoinworld.co.in/degen-chain-commits-to-refunds-after-user-loses-785000-tokens/"}],"summary":"DEGEN is an ERC-20 community token launched in January 2024 on Base, first distributed by airdrop to the /degen channel community on Farcaster, and later adopted as the gas token of the Degen Chain Layer 3 network. Public sources describe a large share of supply held in contracts or multisigs, and one Degen Chain bridge incident in July 2024 in which a user reportedly lost about 90% of a transfer. How verification works. The “Row integrity” check above is computed in your browser — your machine recomputes the SHA-256 of the canonical bytes and compares against the stored hash. No avoid.net server can fake that check. The “full verify” link goes one level deeper: your browser fetches the on-chain transaction from a Solana RPC node and confirms the same hash is in the memo. If you don’t want to trust either avoid.net or the public RPC, run the CLI verifier on your own machine — python -m src.verify_decision <event_id>.
