Audit log

Every state-changing event for Abstract Chain Shutdown (December 2026): moderation decisions on community submissions, plus corrections and updates from the news pipeline. URL-based decisions are designed to carry three independent witnesses — the original source, an Internet Archive snapshot, and a Solana memo signed by our publicly-disclosed publisher key. Archive coverage is still being backfilled, so each decision below reports its own snapshot status rather than assuming one exists.

Abstract and Igloo CEO Luca Netz attributed the closure to a restricted DeFi ecosystem, thin on-chain liquidity, limited institutional crossover, and a smaller operating budget than competing networks, saying the consumer-focused chain model proved unsustainable as a standalone business. Abstract reported more than 400,000 onboarded users and more than 144 applications deployed on the network, with partnerships including Red Bull Racing and Disney. These user and application figures are the company's own claims and have not been independently verified by outside auditors.","heading":"Shutdown Announcement and Stated Reasons","severity":"medium","sources":[{"credibility":2,"name":"Abstract to shut down blockchain on Dec. 15 after consumer crypto model proves unsustainable","type":"news_article","url":"https://cryptobriefing.com/abstract-ethereum-layer-2-shut-down/"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Pudgy Penguins parent firm shuts down its own blockchain","type":"news_article","url":"https://protos.com/pudgy-penguins-parent-firm-shuts-down-its-own-blockchain/"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Abstract an Ethereum layer-2 network backed by Pudgy Penguins to shut down on December 15","type":"news_article","url":"https://www.kucoin.com/news/flash/abstract-an-ethereum-l2-network-backed-by-pudgy-penguins-to-shut-down-on-december-15"}]},{"content":"Netz said Igloo had funded Abstract for approximately 18 months using revenue derived from the Pudgy Penguins business, and that the company lost \"tens of millions of dollars\" over roughly two years operating the chain. Protos reported these loss figures as claims made by the company that were not independently verified. Netz also stated that Igloo considered launching an Abstract token or token sale to fund continued operations but decided against it, redirecting remaining resources toward Pudgy Penguins and its PENGU token instead. A related Igloo-operated product, the 3D game Pudgy Party, was reportedly shut down earlier in 2026 after Netz said it had around 200 active users and would have required an additional $2.5 million to continue.","heading":"Financial Losses and Decision Not to Launch a Token","severity":"medium","sources":[{"credibility":2,"name":"Pudgy Penguins parent firm shuts down its own blockchain","type":"news_article","url":"https://protos.com/pudgy-penguins-parent-firm-shuts-down-its-own-blockchain/"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Abstract to shut down blockchain on Dec. 15 after consumer crypto model proves unsustainable","type":"news_article","url":"https://cryptobriefing.com/abstract-ethereum-layer-2-shut-down/"}]},{"content":"Abstract directed users to move assets off the network before the December 15, 2026 deadline using an official Migration Hub (migrate.abs.xyz) or a native bridge (native-bridge.abs.xyz) reported to carry an approximately three-hour processing delay. Multiple outlets reported that, per Abstract's own statements, any funds not bridged off the network by the deadline \"will be inaccessible.\" This creates a hard cutoff risk for less-attentive users, particularly given the roughly two-month window between the announcement and shutdown date, which critics described as \"too short.\"","heading":"Fund Migration Process and Risk of Permanent Loss","severity":"high","sources":[{"credibility":2,"name":"Abstract to shut down blockchain on Dec. 15 after consumer crypto model proves unsustainable","type":"news_article","url":"https://cryptobriefing.com/abstract-ethereum-layer-2-shut-down/"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Pudgy Penguins parent firm shuts down its own blockchain","type":"news_article","url":"https://protos.com/pudgy-penguins-parent-firm-shuts-down-its-own-blockchain/"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Abstract Chain Is Shutting Down: December 15 Deadline & What Users Need to Know","type":"news_article","url":"https://www.bitrue.com/blog/abstract-chain-is-shut-down"}]},{"content":"Users attempting to migrate funds are required to accept Migration Hub Terms of Service dated around October 6, 2026. According to a detailed breakdown of those terms, Section 17 requires disputes to go to individual arbitration before the American Arbitration Association in Miami, Florida, and Section 17.6 excludes class actions and consolidated proceedings; users have a 30-day window from first accepting the terms to opt out of the arbitration and class-action clauses by emailing privacy@abs.xyz, though a liability waiver, a missed-deadline rule, and a one-year claims limitation remain in force regardless of that opt-out. Section 5.8 reportedly waives claims against the operating entities for losses from ordinary negligence, errors, or failures during migration (excluding fraud, gross negligence, or willful misconduct), and total liability is reportedly capped at the greater of $100 or fees paid in the prior 12 months — effectively $100, since the Hub charges no fee. A pseudonymous user cited in Protos's coverage, \"Shugyō,\" alleged that \"they have 100% buried this hoping people don't notice,\" while another user called the terms \"totally normal.\" These assessments of the terms derive primarily from a single third-party legal breakdown (a Tier 3 source) rather than the official terms document itself, and should be treated with corresponding caution pending independent confirmation.","heading":"Migration Terms: Liability Waiver and Class-Action Waiver","severity":"high","sources":[{"credibility":2,"name":"Pudgy Penguins parent firm shuts down its own blockchain","type":"news_article","url":"https://protos.com/pudgy-penguins-parent-firm-shuts-down-its-own-blockchain/"},{"credibility":3,"name":"Abstract Migration Hub: Was du mit dem Häkchen unterschreibst und warum kein Airdrop kommt","type":"other","url":"https://cryptoticker.io/de/abstract-migration-hub-nutzungsbedingungen-airdrop/"}]},{"content":"Despite speculation among some users that accumulated on-chain \"XP\" or loyalty points on Abstract might convert into a token airdrop, Netz stated on X around October 6, 2026 that Igloo had considered and rejected launching an Abstract token or token sale. According to the same third-party review of the Migration Hub terms, the terms explicitly state that migration services include no tokens, airdrops, profit sharing, or redemption of XP, points, streaks, or badges, and that migrating assets creates no entitlement to any future reward. The warning reflects an elevated phishing risk that commonly accompanies protocol shutdowns and token migrations, where scammers create look-alike interfaces to capture user funds or wallet approvals. Some developers were reported to have chosen to move their applications to Robinhood Chain. The company cited an unsustainable consumer-crypto business model and losses of \"tens of millions of dollars,\" and is directing users to migrate funds before the deadline via official bridging tools. The wind-down has drawn criticism over its compressed timeline, a liability/class-action waiver embedded in the migration terms, the absence of any compensation or token airdrop for affected users, and warnings about impersonation scams targeting people trying to migrate funds. How verification works. The “Row integrity” check above is computed in your browser — your machine recomputes the SHA-256 of the canonical bytes and compares against the stored hash. No avoid.net server can fake that check. The “full verify” link goes one level deeper: your browser fetches the on-chain transaction from a Solana RPC node and confirms the same hash is in the memo. If you don’t want to trust either avoid.net or the public RPC, run the CLI verifier on your own machine — python -m src.verify_decision <event_id>.
