Verify a decision
Every moderation decision on AVOID.NET is anchored to the Solana blockchain. You don't have to trust us — you can verify cryptographically that we committed to a verdict at a specific moment and have not rewritten it.
How verification works
- We commit. When a moderator accepts/rejects a submission, we serialize the decision into deterministic UTF-8 bytes (
payload_canonical_string), hash it with SHA-256, encode the digest as base58, and write it to Solana inside an SPL Memo v2 transaction. - We store the bytes. The exact bytes we hashed are stored alongside the decision in our database. Anyone can read them and recompute the hash in any language.
- You compare three values. Database hash, your independently-recomputed hash, and the hash inside the on-chain memo. If all three match, the decision is authentic and timestamped.
The on-chain memo format is
AVOID.NET|v1|h:<b58-sha256>|d:<id>|t:<iso>Find a signature on any investigation page's decision log, or run python -m src.verify_decision --signature <sig> for a CLI check.

The app replicated the visual design and branding of the legitimate Ledger Live application — official companion software for Ledger hardware wallets — published by Ledger SAS, a French company. The real Ledger Live is not distributed through the macOS App Store; Ledger distributes it exclusively through its own website (ledger.com). The fake app reportedly employed a version-inflation technique, cycling through several major version numbers (allegedly from 1.0 to 5.0) within its two-week lifespan, a tactic sometimes used to create an appearance of legitimacy and longevity during app review. Upon installation, the app presented a wallet setup or sync screen and requested users enter their 24-word BIP39 seed phrase (secret recovery phrase). Submission of the seed phrase gave the attackers immediate, complete control over all wallets derived from that seed. Stolen assets were drained within minutes of entry. It is not known how the fraudulent application passed Apple's app review process; Apple's review team did not flag the mismatch between the publisher entity and the well-known Ledger brand. Apple removed the application and terminated the associated developer account after community reports and media coverage surfaced, not through its own proactive detection.","heading":"The Fraudulent Application: Mechanism and Distribution","severity":"critical","sources":[{"credibility":2,"name":"Fake Ledger Live app on Apple's App Store stole $9.5M in crypto - BleepingComputer","type":"news_article","url":"https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/fake-ledger-live-app-on-apples-app-store-stole-95m-in-crypto/"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Apple pulls fake Ledger app and Freecash in rough day for App Store review - 9to5Mac","type":"news_article","url":"https://9to5mac.com/2026/04/14/apple-pulls-fake-ledger-app-and-freecash-in-rough-day-for-app-store-review/"},{"credibility":1,"name":"A fake Ledger app on the Apple App Store drained $9.5 million in crypto - CoinDesk","type":"news_article","url":"https://www.coindesk.com/business/2026/04/14/a-fake-ledger-app-on-the-apple-app-store-just-drained-usd9-5-million-in-crypto"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Fake Ledger app on Apple App Store linked to $9.5M crypto theft across Bitcoin, Tron, Solana: ZachXBT - The Block","type":"news_article","url":"https://www.theblock.co/post/397388/fake-ledger-app-apple-app-store-crypto-theft-bitcoin-tron-solana-zachxbt"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Fake Ledger app on the Apple App Store steals $9.5 million from 50 users - CyberInsider","type":"news_article","url":"https://cyberinsider.com/fake-ledger-app-on-the-apple-app-store-steals-9-5-million-from-50-users/"}]},{"content":"On-chain investigator ZachXBT identified at least 50 victims who lost a combined approximately $9.5 million in cryptocurrency during the app's operational window of April 7-13, 2026. It is established that reports of stolen funds began appearing as early as April 7, 2026 — approximately one week before Apple removed the app. This gap of approximately seven days between the first victim reports and removal drew significant criticism. Apple's review process did not flag the discrepancy between the publisher name 'Leva Heal Limited' (a UK company with SIC codes for manufacturing and medical practice) and the well-known Ledger hardware wallet brand. ZachXBT publicly suggested the documented losses could form the basis of a class-action lawsuit against Apple regarding its duty of care obligations and representations about App Store security.
