Verify a decision

Every moderation decision on AVOID.NET is anchored to the Solana blockchain. You don't have to trust us — you can verify cryptographically that we committed to a verdict at a specific moment and have not rewritten it.

How verification works

  1. We commit. When a moderator accepts/rejects a submission, we serialize the decision into deterministic UTF-8 bytes (payload_canonical_string), hash it with SHA-256, encode the digest as base58, and write it to Solana inside an SPL Memo v2 transaction.
  2. We store the bytes. The exact bytes we hashed are stored alongside the decision in our database. Anyone can read them and recompute the hash in any language.
  3. You compare three values. Database hash, your independently-recomputed hash, and the hash inside the on-chain memo. If all three match, the decision is authentic and timestamped.
The on-chain memo format is AVOID.NET|v1|h:<b58-sha256>|d:<id>|t:<iso>

Find a signature on any investigation page's decision log, or run python -m src.verify_decision --signature <sig> for a CLI check.

The guides further specify that disclosures must be placed where consumers are likely to see them and cannot be buried in hashtag strings or easily missed. Platform-native disclosure toggles may be insufficient without explicit labeling such as '#ad' or '#sponsored'. The lack of disclosure meant followers and retail investors encountered what appeared to be organic, independent endorsements for a token project, when in fact the content was commercially motivated. First, the FTC Endorsement Guides (16 C.F.R. Part 255, revised June 2023) require influencers to clearly and conspicuously disclose material connections to brands when they receive anything of value for endorsements. Violations can attract civil penalties of up to approximately $53,088 per violation (as of 2025, adjusted annually for inflation). However, the FTC's enforcement record against influencers has been historically limited, with only three cases brought against companies for influencer-related violations since 2017. Second, Section 17(b) of the Securities Act of 1933 — the federal anti-touting provision — makes it unlawful to publish promotional communications describing a security for consideration without fully disclosing the receipt, nature, and amount of that compensation. If any of the tokens promoted qualify as securities under the Howey test, undisclosed promoters could face SEC enforcement. Under former SEC Chair Gary Gensler, the agency pursued high-profile cases, including a 2022 settlement with Kim Kardashian ($1.26 million) for promoting EthereumMax and a 2024 action against Justin Sun and several celebrities for unlawfully touting TRX. Under Chair Paul Atkins, who took office in 2025 with a stated pro-innovation posture, no influencer touting charges had been filed as of the research date, and the SEC's enforcement trajectory in this area had slowed markedly. As of June 2026, no confirmed regulatory action by either the FTC or SEC has been publicly reported specifically in connection with the September 2025 Memenetic/ZachXBT exposé.","heading":"Regulatory and Legal Framework","severity":"high","sources":[{"credibility":2,"name":"ZachXBT Exposes 160 Crypto Influencers for Undisclosed Paid Promotions — CoinCentral","type":"news_article","url":"https://coincentral.com/zachxbt-exposes-160-crypto-influencers-for-undisclosed-paid-promotions/"},{"credibility":1,"name":"FTC Endorsements, Influencers, and Reviews — Federal Trade Commission (Official)","type":"regulatory","url":"https://www.ftc.gov/business-guidance/advertising-marketing/endorsements-influencers-reviews"},{"credibility":2,"name":"The SEC Continues to Prove it is the Most Powerful Influencer: How to Avoid Touting Charges — White & Case LLP","type":"research","url":"https://www.whitecase.com/insight-alert/sec-continues-prove-it-most-powerful-influencer-how-avoid-touting-charges"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Should Influencers Be Held Liable for the Promotion of Digital Assets? — DarrowEverett LLP","type":"research","url":"https://darroweverett.com/influencers-digital-assets-promotion-sec-analysis-updates/"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Crypto Sleuth ZachXBT Uncovers Undisclosed Payouts to Over 200 Influencers — Disruption Banking","type":"news_article","url":"https://www.disruptionbanking.com/2025/09/12/crypto-sleuth-zachxbt-uncovers-undisclosed-payouts-to-over-200-influencers/"}]},{"content":"ZachXBT's investigation methodology relied on on-chain Solana data as its primary evidentiary foundation. Each entry in the leaked spreadsheet included the influencer's quoted promotional rate and a Solana wallet address linked to that individual. Transaction hashes on the Solana blockchain were provided as payment receipts, allowing any third party to independently verify that payments were sent from a project-controlled wallet to the influencer's listed address. This methodology provides substantially stronger evidence than self-reported claims or testimonial accounts, as Solana transactions are immutable once confirmed. ZachXBT has used analogous on-chain tracing techniques in other investigations, including the tracing of a $91 million Bitcoin scam and the identification of North Korean IT workers embedded in crypto projects. Observers noted the Memenetic case bore structural resemblance to earlier pump-and-dump promotion schemes, in which coordinated influencer activity temporarily inflates the price of a low-liquidity token, after which early holders exit, leaving retail investors with losses. ZachXBT characterized many of the listed accounts as 'from the most recent class of Crypto Twitter or are just botted accounts,' suggesting that the campaign also suffered from a fraudulent quality problem on the influencer side independent of the disclosure issue. The prevalence of undisclosed promotions, despite years of regulatory warnings, is interpreted by legal observers as reflecting the combination of low enforcement probability, high compensation incentives, and the pseudonymous nature of much of the crypto influencer ecosystem. ZachXBT also noted the structural challenge of monitoring compliance at scale: 'if I created a list they would just block me to remove themselves from it,' indicating that even investigative tracking faces systematic evasion.","heading":"Industry Context and Pattern of Conduct","severity":"medium","sources":[{"credibility":2,"name":"Crypto Sleuth ZachXBT Uncovers Undisclosed Payouts to Over 200 Influencers — Disruption Banking","type":"news_article","url":"https://www.disruptionbanking.com/2025/09/12/crypto-sleuth-zachxbt-uncovers-undisclosed-payouts-to-over-200-influencers/"},{"credibility":2,"name":"ZachXBT Exposes Undisclosed Crypto Shills: Who Is On The List? — 99Bitcoins","type":"news_article","url":"https://99bitcoins.com/news/altcoins/night-of-terror-for-paid-crypto-influencers-zachxbt-spotlights-the-dirtiest-players-in-crypto-twitter/"}]},{"content":"As of June 2026, no U.S. regulatory enforcement action by the FTC or SEC has been publicly confirmed as directly arising from the September 2025 Memenetic/ZachXBT exposé.
