Verify a decision

Every moderation decision on AVOID.NET is anchored to the Solana blockchain. You don't have to trust us — you can verify cryptographically that we committed to a verdict at a specific moment and have not rewritten it.

How verification works

  1. We commit. When a moderator accepts/rejects a submission, we serialize the decision into deterministic UTF-8 bytes (payload_canonical_string), hash it with SHA-256, encode the digest as base58, and write it to Solana inside an SPL Memo v2 transaction.
  2. We store the bytes. The exact bytes we hashed are stored alongside the decision in our database. Anyone can read them and recompute the hash in any language.
  3. You compare three values. Database hash, your independently-recomputed hash, and the hash inside the on-chain memo. If all three match, the decision is authentic and timestamped.
The on-chain memo format is AVOID.NET|v1|h:<b58-sha256>|d:<id>|t:<iso>

Find a signature on any investigation page's decision log, or run python -m src.verify_decision --signature <sig> for a CLI check.

Prosecutors allege the defendants orchestrated a scheme to artificially inflate the trading volume and price of a cryptocurrency token, with the intent to sell their own holdings into the artificially created demand -- a pattern commonly described as pump-and-dump. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of California, wash trading occurs when a trader, or coordinated traders, act as both buyer and seller in the same transaction or series of transactions, creating a false appearance of active, organic trading that induces investors to buy at artificially inflated prices. The charges were part of a coordinated set of indictments, announced March 30, 2026, against ten foreign nationals across four market-making firms: Contrarian, Antier, Gotbit, and Vortex. These charges are allegations; as of the time of writing, the defendants have not been convicted and are presumed innocent.","heading":"Federal Indictment for Alleged Wash Trading and Wire Fraud","severity":"critical","sources":[{"credibility":1,"name":"DOJ (USAO-NDCA): Ten Foreign Nationals Charged In An International Operation Targeting Cryptocurrency Market Manipulation","type":"regulatory","url":"https://www.justice.gov/usao-ndca/pr/ten-foreign-nationals-charged-international-operation-targeting-cryptocurrency-market"},{"credibility":1,"name":"IRS Criminal Investigation: Ten foreign nationals charged in an international operation targeting cryptocurrency market manipulation","type":"regulatory","url":"https://www.irs.gov/compliance/criminal-investigation/ten-foreign-nationals-charged-in-an-international-operation-targeting-cryptocurrency-market-manipulation"},{"credibility":2,"name":"TRM Labs: Ten Fraudsters from Four Financial Services Firms Charged in Different Cryptocurrency Market Manipulation Schemes Out of Northern District of California","type":"research","url":"https://www.trmlabs.com/resources/blog/ten-fraudsters-from-four-financial-services-firms-charged-in-different-cryptocurrency-market-manipulation-schemes-out-of-northern-district-of-california"}]},{"content":"Manu Singh and Vasu Sharma were arrested in Singapore on October 2, 2025, at the request of the United States government. According to reporting on the DOJ announcement, the operation and related indictments span conduct dating back to 2018 and touch more than 60 cryptocurrencies, with authorities seizing over $1 million in digital assets and disabling trading bots used in the alleged schemes. Contrarian was one of four firms -- alongside Gotbit, Vortex, and Antier -- named in the coordinated indictments unsealed by the Northern District of California in March 2026. A separate, earlier DOJ operation (District of Massachusetts, October 2024, involving a fake token called NexFundAI) charged different market makers, including Gotbit, ZM Quant, CLS Global, and MyTrade; Gotbit's founder in that case pleaded guilty and forfeited roughly $23 million.
