Verify a decision

Every moderation decision on AVOID.NET is anchored to the Solana blockchain. You don't have to trust us — you can verify cryptographically that we committed to a verdict at a specific moment and have not rewritten it.

How verification works

  1. We commit. When a moderator accepts/rejects a submission, we serialize the decision into deterministic UTF-8 bytes (payload_canonical_string), hash it with SHA-256, encode the digest as base58, and write it to Solana inside an SPL Memo v2 transaction.
  2. We store the bytes. The exact bytes we hashed are stored alongside the decision in our database. Anyone can read them and recompute the hash in any language.
  3. You compare three values. Database hash, your independently-recomputed hash, and the hash inside the on-chain memo. If all three match, the decision is authentic and timestamped.
The on-chain memo format is AVOID.NET|v1|h:<b58-sha256>|d:<id>|t:<iso>

Find a signature on any investigation page's decision log, or run python -m src.verify_decision --signature <sig> for a CLI check.

The founder explicitly modeled their anonymity on Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto, writing in early posts: 'I am not important, and one day I will be gone without notice.' The initial token supply was one quadrillion (1,000,000,000,000,000) SHIB tokens. At launch, half the supply was locked in Uniswap and the other half was sent unsolicited to Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin. In May 2021, Buterin burned approximately 410 trillion tokens (roughly 40% of total supply) and donated the equivalent of ~$1.14 billion to the India COVID-Crypto Relief Fund and other charities, rather than holding or selling. This act reshaped SHIB tokenomics and removed a significant potential sell pressure. In May 2022, Ryoshi abruptly deleted all Twitter posts and Medium blog entries—including the founding post 'All Hail the Shiba'—and ceased all public communication. Ryoshi's complete disappearance in May 2022—deleting all prior communications without explanation—is an unusual event that raises questions about project accountability. Shytoshi Kusama, who assumed leadership following Ryoshi's exit, also maintains a pseudonymous identity. Coinbase director Conor Grogan has alleged speculatively that Ryoshi may be Sam Bankman-Fried, the disgraced former FTX CEO, though this claim is unverified and denied. Within hours of launch, the network experienced a catastrophic failure caused by an overwhelming transaction volume that exceeded the infrastructure's capacity. According to blockchain security firm Beosin, approximately $1.7 million in ETH (approximately 954 ETH) and $750,000 in BONE tokens became trapped in the Shibarium bridge contract, with no new transactions confirmed for over three hours. RPC systems failed, preventing proper network access. Shytoshi Kusama attributed the failure to the 'massive amount of traffic' rather than a code defect, stating 'All funds are safe.' However, an earlier developer statement admitted that users who sent ETH to the bridge were unlikely to recover funds immediately. The attack was a sophisticated flash loan attack: the attacker borrowed 4.6 million BONE tokens, used them to gain control of 10 of 12 validator signing keys, and thereby obtained a two-thirds supermajority of staking power. This allowed the attacker to manipulate Merkle root checkpoints in the Shibaswap root chain manager contract's exit() function, submitting fraudulent exit requests that passed as legitimate. The attacker drained approximately 224.57 ETH and 92.6 billion SHIB from the bridge, as well as approximately $700,000 in K9 (KNINE) tokens. The K9 Finance DAO blacklisted the attacker's address, rendering those KNINE tokens non-transferable. Developers froze staking and unstaking functions, moved remaining funds to a multisignature hardware wallet, and engaged security firms Hexens, Seal911, and PeckShield to investigate. Security firm Tikala Security identified the root cause as the exploitable exit() function in the root chain manager contract. The hacker rejected a subsequent bounty offer. The largest single wallet is a burn address seeded by Vitalik Buterin's 2021 burn (holding ~410 trillion tokens, or ~41% of total supply); these tokens are permanently inaccessible. The next largest holders are primarily exchange custodial wallets representing aggregated user balances. Excluding the burn address, active circulating supply concentration among identifiable whale wallets remains elevated. Approximately 590 trillion SHIB tokens are in active circulation as of May 2026. Concentrated holdings create structural vulnerability to coordinated sell events: large individual holders can unilaterally trigger significant price dislocations. The classification is based on the SEC's functional definition: a digital commodity derives its value from its function within an operating network without dependence on a central issuer's managerial efforts. This classification resolves the primary regulatory ambiguity that had concerned institutional participants and opens potential pathways for spot ETF products, futures contracts, and institutional custody solutions.
