Verify a decision
Every moderation decision on AVOID.NET is anchored to the Solana blockchain. You don't have to trust us — you can verify cryptographically that we committed to a verdict at a specific moment and have not rewritten it.
How verification works
- We commit. When a moderator accepts/rejects a submission, we serialize the decision into deterministic UTF-8 bytes (
payload_canonical_string), hash it with SHA-256, encode the digest as base58, and write it to Solana inside an SPL Memo v2 transaction. - We store the bytes. The exact bytes we hashed are stored alongside the decision in our database. Anyone can read them and recompute the hash in any language.
- You compare three values. Database hash, your independently-recomputed hash, and the hash inside the on-chain memo. If all three match, the decision is authentic and timestamped.
The on-chain memo format is
AVOID.NET|v1|h:<b58-sha256>|d:<id>|t:<iso>Find a signature on any investigation page's decision log, or run python -m src.verify_decision --signature <sig> for a CLI check.

Proceeds from the sale were estimated at approximately $330,000; combined with roughly $50,000 in other user funds affected, total losses were reported at approximately $380,000. Syndicate Labs confirmed that the root cause was a private key used to authorize bridge contract upgrades that had been stored in a password management tool without additional encryption. Critically, the upgrade mechanism lacked multi-signature authorization and hardware signing protection, meaning a single exposed key provided unrestricted upgrade authority over the bridge contracts. Security researchers described the attack as involving multi-stage reconnaissance and infrastructure mapping prior to execution. The stolen SYND tokens were rapidly sold through Base-side liquidity pools including Aerodrome, and proceeds were subsequently bridged to Ethereum. Syndicate Labs explicitly ruled out insider involvement. Blockchain security firm CertiK was cited in multiple reports as having traced the stolen proceeds. SYND's price fell approximately 34–37% within hours of the incident becoming public. Syndicate Labs pledged full reimbursement of all affected users, including 18.5 million SYND plus additional compensation, stating it held sufficient treasury reserves to cover all losses. The company also announced plans to implement encryption hardening, tighter access controls, hardware and multi-signature mechanisms, and real-time upgrade monitoring.","heading":"Commons Bridge Exploit (April 29, 2026)","severity":"critical","sources":[{"credibility":1,"name":"Syndicate suffers exploit linked to Commons bridge compromise; SYND slides 36% — The Block","type":"news_article","url":"https://www.theblock.co/post/399318/syndicate-exploit"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Syndicate Labs suffers $380k SYND bridge exploit, pledges full user compensation — crypto.news","type":"news_article","url":"https://crypto.news/syndicate-labs-suffers-380k-synd-bridge-exploit-pledges-full-user-compensation/"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Syndicate token SYND crashes by 34% after a Commons bridge exploit — Cryptopolitan","type":"news_article","url":"https://www.cryptopolitan.com/syndicate-synd-crashes-34-bridge-exploit/"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Syndicate Labs confirms Commons bridge attack, vows full compensation — Invezz","type":"news_article","url":"https://invezz.com/news/2026/04/30/syndicate-labs-confirms-commons-cross-chain-bridge-attack-pledges-full-compensation/"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Syndicate Commons Bridge Exploit: 18.5M SYND Sold as Token Falls More Than 36% — AUTOSEC.DEV","type":"research","url":"https://blog.autosec.dev/security-events/Syndicate-Commons-Bridge-exploit/"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Syndicate hack triggers 35% drop in SYND after bridge exploit — Coinpedia","type":"news_article","url":"https://coinpedia.org/crypto-live-news/syndicate-hack-triggers-35-drop-in-synd-after-bridge-exploit/"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Syndicate Commons Bridge Falls Victim to a Fresh DeFi Exploit: ~$400K Stolen — CryptoTimes","type":"news_article","url":"https://www.cryptotimes.io/2026/04/29/syndicate-commons-bridge-falls-victim-to-a-fresh-defi-exploit-400k-stolen/"}]},{"content":"The April 2026 exploit exposed critical deficiencies in Syndicate Labs' operational security posture for its bridge infrastructure. The upgrade key for the Commons bridge — a privileged key capable of modifying live contract logic — was stored in a commercial password manager without additional encryption layers. No multi-signature scheme was in place to require multiple independent approvals for upgrade transactions, and no hardware security module (HSM) or hardware signing device was used. The absence of real-time monitoring for upgrade activity meant the attack went undetected until after the attacker had liquidated the stolen tokens. These failures are particularly notable given the bridge's role as critical cross-chain infrastructure protecting user funds. Standard industry practice for bridge upgrade keys includes at minimum a time-locked multisig arrangement, typically requiring 3-of-5 or higher threshold signatures from hardware wallets held by independent keyholders.","heading":"Security Practices and Key Management Failures","severity":"critical","sources":[{"credibility":2,"name":"Syndicate Labs suffers $380k SYND bridge exploit, pledges full user compensation — crypto.news","type":"news_article","url":"https://crypto.news/syndicate-labs-suffers-380k-synd-bridge-exploit-pledges-full-user-compensation/"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Syndicate Commons Bridge Exploit: 18.5M SYND Sold as Token Falls More Than 36% — AUTOSEC.DEV","type":"research","url":"https://blog.autosec.dev/security-events/Syndicate-Commons-Bridge-exploit/"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Syndicate token SYND crashes by 34% after a Commons bridge exploit — Cryptopolitan","type":"news_article","url":"https://www.cryptopolitan.com/syndicate-synd-crashes-34-bridge-exploit/"}]},{"content":"On May 21, 2026, Syndicate Labs announced it would wind down operations after five years, citing structural deterioration in the rollup market. Co-founder Will Papper stated: 'I wish we had a better path to customer and market traction. Unfortunately, we did not in this rollup market.' The company noted that three dominant platforms — Arbitrum One, Base, and OP Mainnet — now represent approximately 75% of total rollup value secured, and that total value locked across the rollup ecosystem had fallen roughly 36% from an October 2025 peak exceeding $50 billion. Syndicate Labs stated explicitly that the wind-down was unrelated to the April 2026 bridge exploit. The company operated through two legal structures: Syndicate Labs (the corporate entity shutting down) and the Syndicate Network Collective, a Wyoming-based decentralized unincorporated nonprofit association (DUNA) that holds governance authority over the SYND token. Because the DUNA is legally independent of the corporate entity, SYND governance was described as unaffected in the near term. The company stated it was seeking a successor entity and maintainer for its open-source codebase, with an orderly wind-down plan prepared as a fallback. The shutdown coincided with a broader wave of 2026 crypto sector retrenchments including closures at Nifty Gateway, ZeroLend, and Step Finance.","heading":"Company Wind-Down (May 2026)","severity":"high","sources":[{"credibility":1,"name":"Syndicate Labs to wind down operations after five years, citing rollup market slump — The Block","type":"news_article","url":"https://www.theblock.co/post/402130/syndicate-labs-wind-down"},{"credibility":1,"name":"Syndicate Labs Shuts Down as Crypto Cuts and Closures Mount — Decrypt","type":"news_article","url":"https://decrypt.co/368607/syndicate-labs-shuts-down-as-crypto-cuts-and-closures-mount"},{"credibility":2,"name":"SYND Crashes to All-Time Low as Syndicate Labs Announces Wind-Down — BeInCrypto","type":"news_article","url":"https://beincrypto.com/syndicate-labs-wind-down-synd-low/"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Why a16z-backed Syndicate Labs is shutting down after 5 years — Technext","type":"news_article","url":"https://technext24.com/2026/05/21/a16z-backed-syndicate-labs-shutting-down/"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Syndicate Labs Winds Down as Rollup Market Consolidates — TradingPedia","type":"news_article","url":"https://www.tradingpedia.com/2026/05/21/syndicate-labs-winds-down-as-rollup-market-consolidates/"},{"credibility":2,"name":"a16z-Backed Syndicate Labs to Shut Down Amid Rollup Market Crash — BanklessTimes","type":"news_article","url":"https://www.banklesstimes.com/articles/2026/05/21/a16z-backed-syndicate-labs-to-shut-down-amid-rollup-market-crash/"}]},{"content":"The SYND token launched in September 2025 and reached an all-time high in the range of approximately $1.28–$2.61 on or around September 18, 2025 (sources vary on the exact figure).
