Verify a decision

Every moderation decision on AVOID.NET is anchored to the Solana blockchain. You don't have to trust us — you can verify cryptographically that we committed to a verdict at a specific moment and have not rewritten it.

How verification works

  1. We commit. When a moderator accepts/rejects a submission, we serialize the decision into deterministic UTF-8 bytes (payload_canonical_string), hash it with SHA-256, encode the digest as base58, and write it to Solana inside an SPL Memo v2 transaction.
  2. We store the bytes. The exact bytes we hashed are stored alongside the decision in our database. Anyone can read them and recompute the hash in any language.
  3. You compare three values. Database hash, your independently-recomputed hash, and the hash inside the on-chain memo. If all three match, the decision is authentic and timestamped.
The on-chain memo format is AVOID.NET|v1|h:<b58-sha256>|d:<id>|t:<iso>

Find a signature on any investigation page's decision log, or run python -m src.verify_decision --signature <sig> for a CLI check.

That equates to roughly 169,000 messages per day and approximately 94 messages per targeted user during the sample period. According to reporting based on the Anthropic findings, approximately 75 percent of profiles visible in user match feeds were AI-generated; real gig workers accounted for the remaining 25 percent. The primary target demographic was reported to be men in their mid-to-late 30s, primarily located in the United States. Claude handled the bulk of ongoing text-based conversations. A separate, non-Anthropic AI model generated three preset reply options for gig workers to select from, reducing the cognitive burden on human operators while maintaining a veneer of spontaneous human response. Gig workers were deployed specifically for situations requiring a live human presence: video calls, social media follow-backs, and photo requests that AI could not credibly execute. When human operators were unavailable, the apps displayed pre-recorded video clips and fabricated activity signals such as fake profile visitors and phony likes, per reporting citing the Anthropic report. Monetization was achieved through an in-app virtual currency system: messaging and matching consumed credits that users had to replenish by purchasing coins, creating a metered engagement loop designed to extract ongoing payments. The payment processing was reportedly routed through third-party processors rather than native app store billing, using a hidden in-app browser that could be toggled remotely and concealed during app store review. Gig workers were reportedly compensated on a per-message, per-call, and per-social-media-follow basis and could cash out at low threshold amounts.","heading":"Operational Mechanics and Payment Model","severity":"critical","sources":[{"credibility":2,"name":"NTD: Chinese Dating Apps Target Americans via Thousands of Fake Profiles","type":"news_article","url":"https://www.ntd.com/chinese-dating-apps-target-americans-via-thousands-of-fake-profiles-anthropic_1172452.html"},{"credibility":2,"name":"KuCoin: Anthropic Exposes AI Dating Scam Involving 25,000 Users","type":"news_article","url":"https://www.kucoin.com/news/flash/anthropic-exposes-ai-dating-scam-involving-25-000-users"},{"credibility":2,"name":"The Daily Guardian: The sexy AI-powered dating app scams are here","type":"news_article","url":"https://dailyguardian.ca/the-sexy-ai-powered-dating-app-scams-are-here/"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Progressive Robot: AI-Powered Dating App Scams — Anthropic Claude Catfish","type":"news_article","url":"https://www.progressiverobot.com/2026/09/17/ai-powered-dating-app-scams-anthropic-claude-catfish/"}]},{"content":"According to Anthropic's September 2026 report, the operator engineered the apps specifically to evade Apple App Store and Google Play Store review processes. The documented evasion techniques include: (1) a hidden interface mode that presented a compliant, non-deceptive version of the app exclusively during platform review, then activated the full deceptive feature set post-approval; (2) deliberate code shuffling across app variants to defeat similarity-detection systems used by platforms to identify copycat apps; (3) use of separate developer accounts per app to break linkage between the network's members; and (4) routing payments through a hidden in-app browser to a third-party processor, a feature that could be toggled remotely and concealed during review periods. The GTG-15001 network differs from canonical pig-butchering operations in that the payment extraction mechanism was metered and recurring (in-app coin purchases for continued chat access) rather than a single large investment event. The scheme did not reportedly involve cryptocurrency investment solicitations directly. However, analysts have noted the shared playbook of sustained AI-powered personalized engagement as trust-building prior to monetization, and the use of gig workers to lend human authenticity to AI-driven interactions, mirrors evolving pig-butchering tactics documented in 2026.
