Verify a decision

Every moderation decision on AVOID.NET is anchored to the Solana blockchain. You don't have to trust us — you can verify cryptographically that we committed to a verdict at a specific moment and have not rewritten it.

How verification works

  1. We commit. When a moderator accepts/rejects a submission, we serialize the decision into deterministic UTF-8 bytes (payload_canonical_string), hash it with SHA-256, encode the digest as base58, and write it to Solana inside an SPL Memo v2 transaction.
  2. We store the bytes. The exact bytes we hashed are stored alongside the decision in our database. Anyone can read them and recompute the hash in any language.
  3. You compare three values. Database hash, your independently-recomputed hash, and the hash inside the on-chain memo. If all three match, the decision is authentic and timestamped.
The on-chain memo format is AVOID.NET|v1|h:<b58-sha256>|d:<id>|t:<iso>

Find a signature on any investigation page's decision log, or run python -m src.verify_decision --signature <sig> for a CLI check.

The project was marketed as an 'autonomous ecosystem' where participants could purchase NFT eggs using Ethereum, hatch them into randomized digital animals, breed hybrid animals, and earn passive income denominated in the project's native $ZOO token on the BNB Chain (formerly Binance Smart Chain). Paul described it as 'a really fun game that makes you money.' Approximately 3,000 base eggs were sold at 0.1 ETH each on OpenSea, generating an estimated $2.5 million in NFT sales on launch day alone. The $ZOO token began trading on or around July 11, 2021, prior to the official game announcement, and reached a market capitalization of approximately $2 billion at its peak. The project's whitepaper outlined hybrid animal breeding, a burning mechanism to recover tokens, and an in-game economy, none of which were fully implemented.","heading":"Project Overview and Promises","severity":"high","sources":[{"credibility":2,"name":"Logan Paul's CryptoZoo NFT Game September Release Date — TechTimes","type":"news_article","url":"https://www.techtimes.com/articles/264811/20210831/logan-pauls-cryptozoo-nft-game-september-release-date-buy-zoo.htm"},{"credibility":2,"name":"CryptoZoo — Wikipedia","type":"other","url":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CryptoZoo"},{"credibility":2,"name":"The Rise and Demise of CryptoZoo — NFT Now","type":"news_article","url":"https://nftnow.com/features/the-rise-and-demise-of-cryptozoo-a-deep-dive-into-logan-pauls-nft-world/"}]},{"content":"Coffeezilla's December 2022 investigative series alleged that CryptoZoo co-founder Jake Greenbaum (known online as 'CryptoKing') proposed a 'stealth launch' of the $ZOO token in July 2021, roughly six weeks before the official game announcement, which allegedly allowed insider participants to purchase tokens at a steep discount before the announcement drove up public demand. Text messages obtained by Coffeezilla and later referenced in amended court filings purportedly showed planning for this structure. Additionally, court documents cited in the amended class-action complaint alleged that Logan Paul and his manager Jeff Levin each purchased approximately $100,000 worth of $ZOO tokens at the time of launch. Levin is reported to have cautioned Paul in private messages about conducting a formal presale, writing 'It's against the SEC' and 'Definitely don't want to do anything that brings sec eyeballs.' These allegations were central to the class-action complaint's claim that the project's structure constituted the sale of unregistered securities. Coffeezilla's investigation found that lead developer Eduardo (Eddie) Ibanez had allegedly misrepresented his credentials, including falsely claiming to hold a degree from MIT and to have contributed to the Philadelphia Eagles' Super Bowl victory, claims that were subsequently cited in Logan Paul's own cross-complaint. Ibanez reportedly hired a team of approximately 30 engineers at a burn rate of $50,000 per week but allegedly failed to pay many of them. On what was designated 'hatch day,' players discovered that the smart contracts did not function as advertised. Logan Paul himself later acknowledged that some team members were 'con men' and 'felons,' and stated that the project was sabotaged by bad actors. Findeisen interviewed investors who reported losing hundreds of thousands of dollars and alleged that insiders had sold tokens into the market before public disclosure. Four of the video titles explicitly included the word 'scam.' The investigation alleged a market manipulation scheme, non-payment of developers, misrepresentation of team credentials, and that the project was designed to enrich insiders rather than produce a legitimate product. The complaint alleged conspiracy to commit fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, negligence, unjust enrichment, and violations of the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act, characterizing CryptoZoo as a 'rug pull.' Plaintiffs alleged losses exceeding $4.1 million across the investor class. An amended complaint filed in 2024 incorporated the SEC-related text messages between Paul and Levin. Paul filed a cross-claim in January 2024 against co-defendants Ibanez and Greenbaum, alleging they were the 'bad actors' responsible for the project's failure. A magistrate judge later advised against granting Paul a default judgment on that cross-claim, noting it was premature. On October 29, 2025, Judge Alan D. Albright of the Western District of Texas dismissed the class-action lawsuit with prejudice, holding that Paul's promotional statements — including describing CryptoZoo as 'a really fun game that makes you money' — were 'puffery' rather than actionable fraud, and that no concrete or specific promises had been made that were subsequently breached.
