Verify a decision

Every moderation decision on AVOID.NET is anchored to the Solana blockchain. You don't have to trust us — you can verify cryptographically that we committed to a verdict at a specific moment and have not rewritten it.

How verification works

  1. We commit. When a moderator accepts/rejects a submission, we serialize the decision into deterministic UTF-8 bytes (payload_canonical_string), hash it with SHA-256, encode the digest as base58, and write it to Solana inside an SPL Memo v2 transaction.
  2. We store the bytes. The exact bytes we hashed are stored alongside the decision in our database. Anyone can read them and recompute the hash in any language.
  3. You compare three values. Database hash, your independently-recomputed hash, and the hash inside the on-chain memo. If all three match, the decision is authentic and timestamped.
The on-chain memo format is AVOID.NET|v1|h:<b58-sha256>|d:<id>|t:<iso>

Find a signature on any investigation page's decision log, or run python -m src.verify_decision --signature <sig> for a CLI check.

The two co-founded SmartContract.com in 2014 with the goal of connecting smart contracts to external data. Cornell University professor Ari Juels co-authored the Chainlink whitepaper, published in September 2017 alongside the LINK token ICO. The mainnet launched in 2019. The project is developed by Chainlink Labs, incorporated in the Cayman Islands and operationally headquartered in San Francisco. The LINK token is an ERC-677 token (compatible with ERC-20 wallets) with a hard cap of 1,000,000,000 tokens. Chainlink's oracle network aggregates data from multiple independent node operators and delivers it on-chain through decentralized oracle networks (DONs), providing a security model designed to resist single points of failure or manipulation. Key product lines include Price Feeds, Data Streams, Proof of Reserve, the Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP), and the Chainlink Runtime Environment (CRE). As of early 2026, over 60 blockchains are connected via CCIP and the protocol reports approximately 2,400 integrations.","heading":"Protocol Overview and History","severity":"low","sources":[{"credibility":2,"name":"Chainlink (blockchain oracle) - Wikipedia","type":"other","url":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chainlink_(blockchain_oracle)"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Block Stories: The Chainlink Origin Story | Chainlink","type":"official","url":"https://chain.link/block-stories"},{"credibility":2,"name":"What Is Chainlink (LINK)? | Gemini Cryptopedia","type":"research","url":"https://www.gemini.com/cryptopedia/chainlink-crypto-oracle-link-token"}]},{"content":"Chainlink conducted its ICO from July 21 to September 20, 2017. The presale price was approximately $0.09 per LINK (0.0003125 ETH), and the public sale price was $0.11. A total of $32 million was raised — $29 million from the presale and $3 million from the public sale — with 350,000,000 LINK tokens sold to investors. The remaining 650,000,000 tokens were allocated as follows: approximately 35% to node operators and ecosystem incentives, and approximately 30% to Chainlink Labs for research and development. The team allocation has been a persistent criticism: the entity behind the project controls or has historically controlled a substantial share of total supply. According to one tokenomics analysis, Chainlink's 'Team Managed Wallets' collectively represented up to 65% of total supply at various points, though a significant portion is earmarked for node operators rather than founders personally. Token unlock schedules ended in 2024, meaning the full supply is now considered fully vested. Circulating supply as of May 2026 is approximately 727 million LINK. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has publicly stated that Chainlink's 'security model is too centralized for me to be satisfied with it being the solution to all oracle problems,' reflecting concerns about governance concentration, though this statement dates from an earlier period in the protocol's development.","heading":"Token Sale and Tokenomics","severity":"medium","sources":[{"credibility":2,"name":"Chainlink (LINK) ICO — CoinCodex","type":"research","url":"https://coincodex.com/ico/chainlink/"},{"credibility":2,"name":"ChainLink (LINK) ICO Token Sale Review — ICO Drops","type":"research","url":"https://icodrops.com/chainlink/"},{"credibility":3,"name":"Chainlink (LINK) 65% Team-Managed Token Supply Raises Centralization Alarm — OpenPR","type":"news_article","url":"https://www.openpr.com/news/4440719/chainlink-link-65-team-managed-token-supply-raises"},{"credibility":2,"name":"Is Chainlink Centralized? Market commentary in 2020–2021 speculated about potential SEC action, largely originating from the same anonymous short campaign discussed elsewhere in this report. Multiple analyses have noted that the LINK ICO explicitly excluded U.S. investors, which is frequently cited as a factor limiting SEC jurisdiction over the token sale itself. In a signal of industry credibility, the SEC hired Taylor Lindman — previously Deputy General Counsel at Chainlink Labs — to work on digital asset regulatory guidelines. Additionally, a Bitwise S-1 filing with the SEC in 2025 proposed a Chainlink ETF, indicating institutional confidence in LINK's regulatory standing. The report was accompanied by a spam email campaign and alleged paid solicitations to crypto influencers to produce bearish technical analysis. Zeus Capital disclosed a short position in LINK and targeted a 99% price decline. Independent review of the report found it contained no citations and no working links. The entity's website had been registered approximately seven months prior, its Twitter account was suspended for platform violations, and no staff or authors were disclosed. Cointelegraph was unable to contact the firm at its listed offices. Community investigation identified Typeform links in Zeus Capital's website source code pointing to Nexo Finance's infrastructure; Nexo denied involvement but acknowledged the Typeform link was theirs, attributing it to shared marketing tooling. The firm Zeus Capital subsequently confirmed it had never produced research about Chainlink, indicating a third party used the name. The short strategy failed as LINK rallied on broader DeFi market momentum. In November 2025, a Chainlink oracle malfunction temporarily priced a token worth approximately $0.02 at $5.8 million. An attacker exploited the mispricing across the Moonwell lending protocol, repeating the trade seven times within three hours and extracting approximately $1 million (292 ETH). The Moonwell team attributed the root cause to the oracle malfunction rather than a Moonwell smart contract flaw. More broadly, Chainlink's own documentation acknowledges that oracle update latency can create sandwich attack opportunities on stablecoin protocols and that developers must implement additional safeguards such as circuit breakers. Chainlink has historically positioned its decentralized DON architecture — requiring compromise of 50%+1 of nodes on a feed — as its primary defense against manipulation. A $27 million whale transfer in 2025 was reported as sparking concerns about selling pressure. Analysts have noted that Framework Ventures, described as a large LINK holder, has investments in protocols that also use Chainlink as their oracle provider (e.g., Aave, Synthetix), raising questions about whether usage metrics partially reflect related-party relationships.
